Acting Health Commissioner Fern Clarke said Friday that while three of the brands of eggs that are subject to a nationwide recall are on sale in the Virgin Islands, none of the recalled eggs are being sold in the territory. “None of the brands have been found to possess the plant numbers or the Julian dates that are subject to the recall announced nationwide earlier this week,” she said, adding, that initially there was misinformation reaching the Department of Health that some quantity of recalled eggs had been removed from store shelves in the Virgin Islands.
Clarke said that officers, inspectors and personnel from both the departments of Health and Licensing and Consumer Affairs are working together to ensure that the recalled eggs are not being sold in the Virgin Islands.
The following brand names have been identified as being part of the recall:
- Lucerne
- Albertson
- Mountain Dairy
- Ralph’s
- Boomsma’s
- Sunshine
- Hillandale
- Trafficanda
- Farm Fresh
- Shoreland
- Lund
- Dutch Farms
- Kemps
Clarke explained that eggs are packaged in varying sizes of cartons (6-egg cartons, 12-egg cartons, 18-egg cartons) with Julian dates ranging from 136 to 225 and plant numbers 1026, 1413 and 1946. Dates and codes can be found stamped on the end of the egg carton. The plant number begins with the letter P and then the number. The Julian date follows the plant number, for example: P-1946 223.
“The Department of Health apologizes for the initial misinformation that was distributed but I want to assure every resident of the territory, that, as of today, there is no evidence that any of the eggs subject to the recall are on store shelves in the Virgin Islands, Clarke said.
