The Department of Health will begin fogging on St. Croix next week, as part of its mosquito abatement program which began late last month on the island of St. Thomas.
The fogging will be conducted from 6 to 9 p.m. over a two-day period on July 14-15, 2010.
Health Commissioner Julia Sheen said that Environmental Health officers will begin fogging in areas from mid-island to Frederiksted.
The areas include estates Barren Spot, William’s Delight and Whim, areas that the Health Department had designated in 2005 as hot spots for Dengue Fever.
Sheen said that recent downpours in the Territory translate to an increase in the mosquito population, which puts residents at risk for Dengue.
The Department stepped up its Dengue Fever education campaign in June and is urging individuals to scour their yards after heavy rains and empty out receptacles that hold stagnant water, a prime breeding ground for the Aedes Aegypti mosquito that thrives inside the home and transmits the virus that causes Dengue.
