DOH SIGNS CONTRACT WITH REFLECTX ONCOLOGY RESOURCES, INC. TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A CENTRAL CANCER REGISTRY PROGRAM

Health Commissioner Darice Plaskett announced today that the Virgin Islands Department of Health (DOH) has executed a contractual agreement with Reflectx Oncology Resources, Inc. to assist with the development and implementation of a Virgin Islands Central Cancer Registry Program.

DOH Plans Series of Table Top Exercises to Test Readiness and Response Capabilities

The Commissioner of Health, Darice Plaskett, announced today that a series of table top exercises are planned to test the territory's coordination, readiness capabilities, including adherence to established the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) protocols among emergency responders, healthcare facilities and health practitioners.

DOH Issues Public Health Alert on Ebola

Health Commissioner Darice Plaskett reported today that the Department of Health is collaborating and communicating with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), local Hospital Officials, Healthcare Partners and Emergency Medical Personnel to be prepared in the event of a local Ebola case.

Fogging Has Negligible Impact on Spread of Chikungunya Virus DOH Re-Affirms Education, Source Reduction, Personal Protection as Most Effective Method of Prevention and Control

Dr. Brett Ellis, Entomologist for the Health Department stated that “The impact of fogging to control Aedes aegypti, the mosquito responsible for transmitting dengue and chikungunya, has been controversial but most vector control programs acknowledge its extremely limited effect.
